Mapp ends support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1.

Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a cryptographic protocol for secure internet communication. This protocol includes communication servers and web browsers and also between servers, such as for API calls.


Why?​

  • Mapp has legal and contractual obligations to maintain state-of-the-art security of its services. TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1 have inherent weaknesses and are no longer used.

  • There have been documented attacks against TLS 1.0 using an older encryption method, and the older versions are more vulnerable than TLS 1.2. For more information, see Attacks against TLS/SSL.

  • Most requests for Mapp web services originate from TLS 1.2-compliant systems, with low traffic from TLS 1.1 systems. To ensure secure access to web services, Mapp will not wait for security patches for TLS 1.1 and no longer supports anything older than TLS 1.2.

  • Clients have already asked when Mapp will shut down support for TLS1.0/1.1 after their security audits.

  • For these reasons, support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 is deprecated as of July 2019. From this point, only TLS 1.2 and future versions are supported.


When Does This Change Take Effect?​

July 1, 2019.

Effective July 1, 2019, all client systems must be compliant with the new Transport Layer Security 1.2 protocol. Otherwise they risk a loss of access to some Mapp Cloud services.


How Does This Affect You?​

You are affected if you are using older versions of the browsers, operating systems or application frameworks that are listed in the following tables.

Additional Important Information​

If you do not update your affected browser, operating system, or application framework, you can lose access to Mapp services.

Possible Problems

  • “https” links in messages that are sent from Mapp Cloud do not work when used in old browsers that do not support TLS protocols of TLS 1.2 or higher.
    Outbound emails are in TLS 1.2, where possible. Only 0.8% of outgoing mail traffic is impacted here.

  • Systems that send API calls and still use API interfaces before TLS 1.2 do not work.

  • Inbound messages or replies sent from clients who do not support TLS protocols of 1.2 or higher do not reach Mapp Cloud and are dropped.

  • Outbound emails are sent in TLS 1.2, where possible. Only 0.8% of outgoing mail traffic is impacted here.

Mapp has a new segmentation tool and CMS system for messages. Old features are no longer available for new systems and features are scheduled for sunsetting.

The following features are scheduled for sunsetting:

  • Whiteboard (old)

  • Selections

  • CMS Message

Why?​

The new features rely on the new Mapp infrastructure, which is faster and more reliable than the old features and infrastructure.

When Does This Change Take Effect?​

Effective immediately.

As of November 2018, Whiteboard, Selections, and CMS Message are no longer available for new clients.

Mapp offers the following alternatives.

  • For Whiteboard Mapp offers Whiteboard NEW.

  • For Selections, Mapp offers Segmentation Builder​.

  • For CMS Messages, Mapp offers Content Management​.

How Does This Affect You?​

New client systems automatically have the new Whiteboard and All Engage clients are affected. Old features are not available for new clients.

If you already have Selections, this feature continues to work until further notice.

If you already have a Whiteboard, this feature continues as scheduled.

As of this release, users can mark their most important reports as personal favorites. These appear in the navigation area under "Overview." The favorites you set are also only visible to you (previously, a report selected as a favorite was visible as a favorite for all users who have the report available in their login).

Since this is no longer a report setting, you no longer need editing rights to set a report as a favorite.



Please note that the report favorites set before this release are no longer displayed in the navigation area. However, the corresponding reports are still available. Select your favorites in the report overview (Reports > Overview) by clicking on the star icon in the "Actions" column.

As of this release, you can also edit the analyses stored under "My analyses" and then save them directly.


  1. Open an analysis within "My Analyses."

  2. Make the desired changes, for example, filter by specific metrics.

  3. In the analysis context menu, click [Save]. The changes are saved, and the original analysis is overwritten accordingly.

You can use the search function in the Analytics Report Overview to restrict the search to a specific column.

To do this, select the required column in the table overview from the new dropdown menu and enter the search term as usual. The search only lists results from the selected column.



The dropdown menu lists all available columns of the table overview, even if they are not visible according to your settings. The columns "Actions" and "Schedule" are excluded; they are not relevant to the search because they contain functions.

The previous " Bookmarks " are now called " My analyses." Under "My Analyses" you can permanently save analyses as usual and in this way create personal quick access to the analyses relevant to you.

  1. To do this, click Add to > My Analyses in the context menu of the respective analysis.



  2. Then enter a meaningful name under which you want to save the analysis.



  3. Click [Apply].
