# Activate a Time-Based Automation

## Goal

To activate a time-based automation.

## Background Information

A time-based automation is automatically executed at a scheduled date and time. The schedule is defined in the Schedule Time-based Automation window (see [Schedule Time-Based Automation (window)](/v1/docs/schedule-time-based-automation-window)).

> Automations must be activated as well as saved. Only activated automations are executed by the system. For more information, see[Activate a Time-Based Automation](/v1/docs/activate-a-time-based-automation).

Activation changes the status of an automation to:

- **Active, Scheduled** if the automation has never been executed before or if the automation is scheduled to execute only one time.
- **Active, Running** if the automation has been executed at least once.

## Procedure

1. In the **Main Navigation**, click *Automations > Automations*. ⇒ The **Time-based Automations Overview** window opens.
2. Select the checkbox of the desired automation.
3. Click the **Activate** button. ⇒ The automation now has the status **Active, Scheduled** or **Active, Running**.
