# Activate an Event-Based Automation

## Goal​

To activate an event-based automation. The system only executes active automations.

## Background Information​

Activation changes the status of an automation to:

- ​Scheduled ​if the automation has never been executed before.
- ​Running​ if the automation has been executed at least once.

An active event-based automation is executed whenever the event takes place.

## Procedure​

1. In the **​Main Navigation​,** click *​Automation​.*

*⇒*The **​Whiteboard Overview​** window opens.
2. Click the **​Event-based​** tab.
3. Select the checkbox of the automation you want to activate.
4. At the bottom of the window, click the **​Activate​** button. ⇒The automation now has the status **​Active, Scheduled​** or **​Active, Running​.**
