    Add a Segment to a Group

    Article summary

    You can transfer all or some of the contacts who match your segment criteria into an existing group. It is also possible to use the transfer function to remove or replace addresses from a group, or to validate complex segment conditions.

    Example

    You have a complex set of criteria and you want to make sure that you have created the correct logic.

    Solution:

    1. Transfer the members of the segment into a temporary group.

    2. Check the individual details of the selected contacts to verify that they meet the defined set of conditions.

    Procedures

    You can perform the contact transfer in two ways:

    Option 1 - Segmentation Builder

    1. Go to Audience > Segmentation > Segmentation Builder.

    2. Select the segment plan you want to add to a group by clicking it once. A bar appears at the top with the options More and Edit.

    3. Click More and then click Transfer. The Transfer Segment window opens to the Update Existing Group tab.

    4. Select method: 

      Add

      ​Adds the contacts to the selected group. You cannot add contacts a second time when they exist in the group.

      Replace

      Replaces all members of the selected group. You remove all existing members of the group and replace them with the contacts who match the segment.

      Remove

      Removes the contacts who match the segment from the group. Existing group members who match the segment criteria are permanently removed from the group. Existing group members who do not match the criteria remain in the group.

    5. Select the group name from the Group Name drop-down list.

    6. Specify the transfer amount: 

      All

      Transfers all the contacts who match the segment.

      Percentage

      Transfers a percentage of the contacts who match the segment. Mapp Engage randomly selects contacts by ID number.

      Number

      Transfers a defined number of the contacts who match the segment. Mapp Engage randomly selects contacts by ID number.

    7. Click Transfer.

    Option 2 - Contact Management

    1. Go to Audience​ >​ Contact Management > Group Members​.

    2. From the ​Group​ drop-down list, select a group.

    3. Click the ​Add Segment​ button.

    4. Configure the transfer of contacts:

      1. Select whether you want to transfer all contacts who match the segment, or only a portion.

        All

        Transfers all the contacts who match the segment.

        Percentage

        Transfers a percentage of the contacts who match the segment. Mapp Engage randomly selects contacts by ID number.

        Number

        Transfers a defined number of the contacts who match the segment. Mapp Engage randomly selects contacts by ID number.

      2. Select transfer mode.

        Add

        ​Adds the contacts to the selected group. You cannot add contacts a second time when they exist in the group.

        Replace

        Replaces all members of the selected group. You remove all existing members of the group and replace them with the contacts who match the segment.

        Remove

        Removes the contacts who match the segment from the group. Existing group members who match the segment criteria are permanently removed from the group. Existing group members who do not match the criteria remain in the group.

      3. In the ​Notification Address​ field, enter the email address of a system user. This system user receives a system message with information about the contact transfer.

      4. Click ​Transfer​ to begin the transfer process.
        Mapp Engage transfers the contacts who match the segment criteria into the group.
