Goal
Add email addresses, mobile numbers, or domains to a blacklist in Mapp Engage — either the system-wide System Blacklist or a group-specific Group Blacklist. The three methods below apply to both scopes; the group-specific differences are called out inline where they occur.
Warning
System Blacklist: When a contact is placed on a system blacklist, all contact profile data is deleted — permanently.
Group Blacklist: When a contact is placed on a group blacklist, Mapp Engage deletes all group-related information. This includes member attributes, group membership, and subscription data — permanently.
Prerequisites
Your role must have the permission that matches the blacklist scope you are editing:
System Blacklist: your system role must have permission
203— Contact Management: Edit system blacklist.Group Blacklist: your group-specific role or group-override system role must have permission
505— Members: Edit group blacklist.
Procedure
You can add entries to a blacklist in one of the following ways.
Note
Each method works for both scopes. For a Group Blacklist, the navigation goes to Audience > Blacklist > Group Blacklist (instead of System Blacklist) and you must select the target group from the Group drop-down before continuing.
1. Import Entries via File
Use this method if you want to upload multiple entries from a prepared file.
Go to Audience > Blacklist > System Blacklist. For a group blacklist, go to Audience > Blacklist > Group Blacklist instead and select the desired group from the Group drop-down.
Click Import.
Select your file and configure the import settings:
File Type: Text or XML
List Type: Clear-text or MD5
Character Set: e.g., UTF-8
Import Mode:
Add – Append entries to the existing blacklist
Replace – Overwrite the entire blacklist with your file
Delete – Remove specified entries from the blacklist
Click Import.
The logged-in user who performs the import will receive a confirmation email with the import status.
2. Manually Add Entries
Use this method to add individual entries directly via the UI (e.g., via copy & paste).
Go to Audience > Blacklist > System Blacklist. For a group blacklist, go to Audience > Blacklist > Group Blacklist instead and select the desired group from the Group drop-down.
Click Create.
Select the List Type: Clear-text or MD5.
Enter one or more entries, each on a separate line:
Email
Mobile Number
Domain
Click Save.
A success message will confirm that the entries have been added to the blacklist. For a group blacklist you will also receive a confirmation email.
3. Blacklist from the Contact/Group Overview
Use this method to blacklist an existing contact directly from the contact list.
Go to Audience > Contact Management > All Contacts. For a group blacklist, go to Audience > Contact Management > Group Members instead and select the desired group from the Group drop-down.
Search for the contact you want to blacklist.
Expand the context menu next to the contact and click Blacklist.
Review or adjust the Email, Mobile Number, or Mobile App Alias.
Click Add to System Blacklist. For a group blacklist, click Add to Group Blacklist instead.
The selected contact will be added to the blacklist.
