# Adding Test Recipient to a Group

## Goal

Designate members of a group as test recipients so they can receive message previews for testing before a final sendout.

## Background Information

A test recipient receives previews of messages that are sent to a group for testing purposes only. This allows you to review message content, layout, and personalization before the final sendout.

Test messages are sent during the final step of the email sendout configuration. For more information, see [Configuration for Sendout​](/v1/docs/configuration-for-sendout).

## Procedures

### Adding a new group member as a test recipient

1. In the main navigation, click *Audience > Contact Management > Group Members*.
2. From the **Group** drop-down list, select a group.
3. Click **Add Members**.
4. Enter the email address, first name, and last name of the test member.
5. Select **New member is a test recipient**.
6. Click **Add Members**.

### Designating an existing group member as a test recipient

1. In the main navigation, click *Audience > Administration > Contact Management > Group Members*.
2. From the **Group** drop-down list, select a group.
3. Locate the group member you want to designate.
4. Click **Promote to Test Recipient**.

The selected member is now a test recipient and receives all test sendouts for this group.
