# Assign, Change, or Remove a Group Category

## Goal

To assign, change, or remove a group category for an Engage group.

## Prerequisite

The group category has been created in the **Administration** area. For more information, see [Create New Group Category](/v1/docs/create-new-group-category).

## Background Information

Group categories are assigned to groups in Engage to make organizing different types of groups easier. Only one category can be assigned to a group at any time. For more information, see [Group Categories](/v1/docs/group-categories).

## Procedure

1. In the main navigation menu, click *Audience > Groups*.
2. Edit the group whose category you want to change by clicking ![](https://cdn.document360.io/554b9b98-6720-4d8b-9919-c7b203d72648/Images/Documentation/d1bd79c2-ac37-457c-96a0-c4e8442ad2fb.png) in the **Actions** column. ⇒ The **General Settings** tab opens.
3. From the **Group Category** drop-down list, select the group category you want to assign. To remove the current category instead, select **--unset--**.
4. Click **Save**. ⇒ The change is applied to the group.
