# Change Member Read Mode

This job was previously called: Change Read Mode.

This job changes the member read mode of members in a specific group. The member read mode stores information about how a member prefers to receive messages within a specific group. The channel and format settings are group-specific and only affect messages sent to the recipient in the selected group. Preferences for email, SMS and mobile push are defined with this job.

> This job changes the member's individual read mode preferences, not the group settings.

## Use Case​

This job can be used in combination with a preference center where contacts change their desired email frequency for a certain period of time, for example during their holidays. If desired, this job can suppress all contact for a certain period of time. The information from the preference center is normally stored in the custom user attributes.

## Basic Settings

| **​Name​** | This input field defines the name of the automation. The name is used to identify the automation in the system. It appears on the ​Time-based Automations Overview​ window. The maximum length is 100 characters. |

| **​Description​** | This input field defines a description of the automation. The description makes it easier to identify the automation in the system. |

## Define Job​

This area defines the specific parameters of the job.

- **Group Name**: This field defines the group for which the read mode is changed. The channel and format settings are group-specific and only affect messages sent to the recipient in the selected group. - **Read Mode:** This input field defines the preferred, allowed and denied contact methods. The ![](https://cdn.document360.io/554b9b98-6720-4d8b-9919-c7b203d72648/Images/Documentation/748f03c9-f2b0-4757-9169-87302d041ac5.png) symbol opens the ​Select Message Format​ window. Here the desired read mode settings are selected from drop-down lists.

## Define Selection​

- **Selection**: This drop-down list defines a selection. A selection filters contacts according to defined conditions. A selection is mandatory for this job. Only the group members who match the selection criteria will have their member read modes changed.
