Beta

The Product Catalog is currently in Beta and is not yet available to all customers. Availability is being expanded gradually. Functionality, configuration, and behavior may change before general availability.

Overview

The Product Catalog in Connect replaces the legacy product catalogs with one standardized product data foundation that is shared across Mapp Cloud. This page summarizes the main differences between the legacy and new Product Catalogs, focusing on what matters most to everyday users.

Key Differences

Area

Legacy Product Catalog

Product Catalog (Connect)

Data Structure

Product data was structured differently across systems, resulting in inconsistencies.

One standardized product data structure is used across all services.

Source of Truth

No central product data foundation.

Single source of truth for all product data.

Personalization & Recommendations

Limited by fragmented and inconsistent data.

Improved personalization and recommendations based on consistent product data.

Localization

No structured support for per-attribute localization.

Flexible localization per attribute within one global catalog, supporting single- and multi-market setups.

Integrations

Limited compatibility with external vendor feeds.

Feeds compatible with preferred external vendors, for example, Google Merchant.

Flexibility for Services

Business logic was tightly coupled to the catalog, reducing flexibility.

Neutral data layer; each service applies its own logic on top.

Scalability

Mainly focused on specific verticals, such as Fashion.

Designed to support multiple verticals.

Data Quality & Guidance

Inconsistent guidance on required product data.

Clear schema requirements ensure consistent, validated product information.

Note

Mapp Engage works with the legacy product catalog and the new Product Catalog in parallel. Existing Engage setups continue to function as before, and you can adopt the new Product Catalog at your own pace without migrating Engage all at once.
