# Defining Sendout Speed for a Group

## Goal

Configure the sendout speed for messages in a group to improve deliverability and reduce the risk of spam classification.

---

## Background Information

The sendout speed setting helps control how quickly messages are delivered to recipients. By default, sendout speed is set to the maximum unless you change it manually. Adjusting this setting is especially useful for large groups or groups with new or unverified addresses.

Key reasons to limit the sendout speed include:

- Preventing spam classification when sending large volumes from an IP usually used for smaller groups
- Allowing address quality checks for new groups by spreading spam complaints over time
- Reducing the risk of widespread deliverability issues across all addresses

---

## Procedure

Follow these steps to define the sendout speed for a group.

1. Navigate to *Audience > Group Management > Groups*.
2. Create a new group by clicking **Create**, or open an existing group for editing.
3. Open the **Sendout Options** tab.
4. In the **Sendout Speed** area, select one of the following options:
  - **Evenly distribute over a time frame**
  - **Send X emails per hour**
5. In the **Time Frame** area, define the start and end times for the sendout.
6. If the message should be sent in a different time zone, select the required option from the **Time Zone** drop-down menu.
7. Click **Save** to apply the settings.

---

## Important Notes

- Sendout speed settings apply only to email and SMS channels.
- To control the sendout speed for Mobile Push notifications, use a scheduled Whiteboard with a Random Split filter.
- Carefully consider sendout speed adjustments for large or irregular campaigns to improve deliverability and reduce potential issues.

Deliverability is the ability of an email to reach a recipient’s inbox successfully. It is influenced by factors like sender reputation, authentication, and engagement.
