# Use Segments to Display Dynamic Content (CMS)

## Overview

Dynamic content allows you to display different content blocks within a single message based on recipient criteria.

In the CMS editor, you can assign a **sendout condition** to individual components. This ensures that only recipients who meet the defined condition see the corresponding content.

Segments are commonly used to control content visibility for predefined target groups.

---

## Assign a Segment as a Sendout Condition

1. Open the message in **Compose (CMS)**.
2. Switch to **Edit Monitor** or **List View**.
3. Select the component or content block you want to control.
4. Open the **Details** tab.
5. Activate **Sendout Condition**.
6. In the *Select a sendout condition* dialog, choose **Segment**.
7. Select the desired segment from the list.
8. Confirm your selection.

Repeat these steps for additional content variations as needed.

---

## How It Works

During sendout, the system checks each recipient’s segment membership:

- If the recipient belongs to the selected segment, the component is displayed.
- If not, the component is hidden.
- Components without a sendout condition are shown to all remaining recipients.

---

## Other Condition Types

In addition to segments, you can define sendout conditions based on:

- Attributes
- Member Attributes

These options allow more granular targeting based on recipient data.

---

## Using Segments for Fallback Content

If some recipients do not meet any specific targeting condition, you can create a separate segment to ensure that fallback content is displayed.

This prevents empty content areas and ensures that all recipients receive meaningful content.
