# Email Response Received

Engage registers this event when an email message generates a response (a technical notification that Engage receives regarding a problem with email message sendout or delivery).

## Configuration

| Settings | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **​Response Category (any of the following)​** | Select one or more response categories to limit the event to responses of a certain type: - ​Blocked​ - ​Spam Complaint​ - ​Invalid Address​ - ​Rejected​ - ​Communication Failure​ - ​Transient​ - ​Unknown​ For more information, see [Responses​](/v1/docs/responses). |
| **​Responses​** | Define whether Engage limits the event to responses that cause deactivation. - ​React to all responses in the selected categories:​ Engage does not limit the event to any types of responses. - ​React to responses in the selected categories that deactivated contacts :​ Engage limits the event to responses that caused contact deactivation. Certain response types cause deactivation of email addresses that have a history of deliverability problems. |
| **​Prepared Email Message​** | - ​**Group**:​ Limits the event to responses that prepared messages in a specific group generate. - ​Email Message (any of the following):​ Limits the event to responses that one or more prepared messages generate. Select up to 15 prepared messages from the ​Email Message (any of the following)​ drop-down list. |
| **​Scheduled or Sent Email Message​** | - ​**Group**:​ Limits the event to responses that scheduled or sent messages in a specific group generate. - ​Email Message (any of the following):​ Limits the event to responses that one or more scheduled or sent messages generate. Select up to 15 email messages from the ​Email Message (any of the following)​ drop-down list. |
| **​Group​** | - ​**Any Group**:​ Engage registers this event for responses that email messages in any group generate. - ​**Specific Group**:​ Limits the event to responses that email messages in one or more specific groups generate. Select up to 15 groups from the ​Group (any of the following)​ drop-down list. |
| **​Message category​** | Limits the event to responses from email messages that belong to the selected message categories. Select up to 15 message categories from the ​Message Category (any of the following)​ drop-down list. You can use a message category to create an automation that reacts to single messages in multiple groups at once. |
