# Group Messages and Single Messages in Mapp Engage

## Overview

This topic explains the difference between group and single messages in Mapp Engage. Understanding how each message type works helps ensure correct tracking, evaluation, and usage in your campaigns.

## Message Types

### Group Messages

- Sent to some or all members of a group.
- Created using the Message Creation wizard.
- Considered group messages even if segments or A/B tests are applied.
- Each sendout has a unique Message ID (MID) and its own statistics.
- All sendouts appear individually in the Outbox.
- Subject to message limitation settings.

### Single Messages

- Sent to one specific contact.
- Used for personalized or system-triggered communications, such as:
  - Shipping details
  - Birthday greetings
  - Order confirmations
  - Automated responses to user activity
- Includes system, transactional, and automated single messages.
- All sendouts share a single MID and a combined statistics set.
- Only one sendout is visible in the Outbox.
- Not evaluated in message limitation.
