# Manage Profile-Based Automations

This page explains how to activate profile-based automations and apply them to all contacts in the system.

## Goal

To activate a profile-based automation and apply it to contact profiles.

## Prerequisite

A profile-based automation has been created.

## Background

Profile-based automations only work if they are active. Engage does not execute automations with status Inactive.

There are two ways profile-based automations can be executed:

- Automatically: When a contact’s profile is updated via the API or Engage UI, active automations are applied to that contact.

> [!NOTE]
> Note
>
> Profile changes from imports do not trigger this execution.
- Manually (bulk processing): When you click Apply Automations, Engage applies all automations with status Active and re-applies those with status Applied to all contacts in the system.

Automations are processed based on their defined priority. Once processing is complete, the owner receives a confirmation email.

---

## Activate a Profile-Based Automation

1. In the **Main Navigation**, go to

*Automations > Automations > Profile-based*
2. Select the desired automation.
3. Click **Activate**.

⇒ The automation is now active and will be applied automatically when relevant profile changes occur.

---

## Apply Automations to All Contacts (Bulk Reprocessing)

1. In the same view (*Automations > Profile-based*), click **Apply Automations**.
2. Engage applies all profile-based automations with status *Active*, and re-applies those with status *Applied*, to **all contacts**.

⇒ This operation may take some time. You will receive a confirmation email once finished.

> [!WARNING]
> Important
>
> This action immediately affects all contacts. It cannot be limited to individual automations.
