Making a Segment Mandatory for Sendout

Prev Next

Goal

Ensure that a segment is mandatory for every sendout in a group, so messages are always sent to a defined target audience.

Background Information

Mapp Engage provides different ways to prepare sendouts to groups.

You can either:

  • Use multiple groups, where each group represents a fixed set of recipients and is selected directly for sendout.

  • Use one central group that contains all recipients and apply segments to define smaller target audiences for each sendout.

When you work with a central group, the group itself is not intended to receive messages. In this setup, segments are required to limit the recipients for each sendout. To prevent sendouts without a segment, you can configure the group so that a segment is always mandatory.

During sendout, Mapp Engage checks whether a segment is applied. If no segment is set, the sendout is blocked, and an error message is displayed.

This behavior applies to:

  • Group sendouts

  • Split sendouts

It does not apply to group sendouts that are initiated by an automation.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Audience > Group Management > Groups.

  2. Edit the group you want to configure.

  3. Open the Sendout Options tab.

  4. Expand the Mandatory Fields for Sendout section.

  5. In the Selection area, select Yes.

  6. Click Save.

Note

In the user interface, segments are still labeled Selection. The Selection setting therefore controls whether a segment is mandatory.

For every sendout in this group, applying a segment is mandatory. A sendout without a segment is not possible.
