# Making a Selection Mandatory for Sendout

## Making a Selection Mandatory for Sendout

## Goal

Ensure that a selection is mandatory for every sendout in a group, so messages are always sent to a defined target audience.

---

## Background Information

Mapp Engage provides different ways to prepare sendouts to groups.

You can either:

- Use multiple groups, where each group represents a fixed set of recipients and is selected directly for sendout.
- Use one central group that contains all recipients and apply selections to define smaller target groups for each sendout.

When you work with a central group, the group itself is not intended to receive messages. In this setup, selections are required to limit the recipients for each sendout. To prevent sendouts without a selection, you can configure the group so that a selection is always mandatory.

During sendout, Mapp Engage checks whether a selection is applied. If no selection is set, the sendout is blocked, and an error message is displayed.

This behavior applies to:

- Group sendouts
- Split sendouts

It does not apply to group sendouts that are initiated by an automation.

---

## Procedure

1. Navigate to *Audience > Group Management > Groups*.
2. Edit the group you want to configure.
3. Open the **Sendout Options** tab.
4. Expand the **Mandatory Fields for Sendout** section.
5. In the **Selection** area, select **Yes**.
6. Click **Save**.

For every sendout in this group, applying a selection is mandatory. A sendout without a selection is not possible.
