After you insert one of these variables, you must edit it, for example to add the web address. | Variable | Inserted code | Available in | | --- | --- | --- | | **Content Merging** | `<ecm:insertcontent url="URL" encoding="UTF-8" />` | Email | | **Insert Ad** | `<%InsertAd:"URL"%>` | Email, landing page | | **Individual Attachment** | `<ecm:attach xmlns:ecm='http://ecircle-ag.com/mail'><ecm:url>'URL'</ecm:url></ecm:attach>` | Email | | **RSS Title** | `<%RSSTitle:"URL"%>` | Email subject line | In the **Build & Design** step of a landing page, the category contains only **Insert Ad**. > [!WARNING] > Warning > > Mapp Engage does not check the content or files that these variables load, and does not scan them for viruses. You are responsible for making sure that the source is secure and trusted. --- ## Content Merging Inserts content from a fixed web address into the email, for example a section that you maintain on your website or an RSS feed. All recipients receive the content from the same address. Replace `URL` with the address of the content, including the protocol (for example `https://`). The default character encoding is UTF-8. If the website uses a different encoding, for example ISO-8859-1, change the value of `encoding`. ```plaintext ``` During sendout, Mapp Engage processes personalization placeholders in the inserted content and can track the links in it. ### Requirements for the Web Content - CSS must be part of the HTML code of the web page. Mapp Engage does not apply linked style sheets. - Links must use absolute addresses. Relative links do not work after sendout. - Images must be publicly accessible. Mapp Engage converts relative image addresses to absolute addresses automatically. The image handling of the message applies. See [Add and Manage Images in HTML Emails](/v1/docs/insert-images-in-an-email). For an example with an RSS feed, see [Insert RSS Feeds Into Email Message](/v1/docs/insert-rss-feeds-into-email-message). --- ## Insert Ad Inserts content from a web address that can contain personalization placeholders. Each contact can receive different content, for example a product page that matches the contact's interests. You can use Insert Ad in emails and on landing pages. Replace `URL` with the address, including the protocol. Inside the variable, write attribute references without the `<% %>` tags. For the available references, see [Attribute References](/v1/docs/attribute-references). ### Example Your website has a page for each hobby. The custom attribute **Hobby** stores the hobby of each contact. The variable loads the matching page: ```plaintext <%InsertAd:"https://www.example.com/${user.CustomAttribute['Hobby']}.html"%> ``` ### Restrictions - Mapp Engage does not process personalization placeholders inside the loaded content. Only the address can be personalized. - Use a maximum of two Insert Ad variables per landing page. More variables slow down the loading of the page. - Links with a personalized address cannot be tracked individually. To evaluate them as an aggregate, set up tracking of personalized links in the group settings. See [Group Creation: Tracking & Links](/v1/docs/tracking-links-tab). - Images in the loaded content must have a static address. --- ## Individual Attachment Attaches a different file to each email, for example an invoice or an account statement. During sendout, Mapp Engage loads the file for each contact from your web server. Large attachments slow down the sendout. If you are unsure about the file size, contact your customer representative. For requirements, examples, and options, see [Send a Different Attachment to Each Recipient](/v1/docs/send-a-different-attachment-to-each-recipient). --- ## RSS Title Inserts the title of the first item of an RSS feed into the subject line. Replace `URL` with the address of the RSS feed. - The email must contain the RSS feed as a **Content Merging** variable. Otherwise, an error occurs. - Insert the variable in the subject line only. In other places, Mapp Engage does not replace it. - Insert the variable from the **Mapp Engage Variables** panel. If you type it manually, Mapp Engage does not replace it. --- ## Related Topics - [Mapp Engage Variables](/v1/docs/mapp-engage-variables) - [Send a Different Attachment to Each Recipient](/v1/docs/send-a-different-attachment-to-each-recipient) - [Insert RSS Feeds Into Email Message](/v1/docs/insert-rss-feeds-into-email-message) - [Personalize a Landing Page](/v1/docs/engage-variables-in-landing-pages)
