1 Introduction

Push Notifications let you send short, real-time messages directly to a user's mobile device even when the app isn't open. These alerts appear on the device screen and are designed to boost engagement, inform users, or prompt immediate actions.

Push notifications are fully integrated into Mapp’s multi-channel strategy. You can combine them with email, SMS, and in-app messages within a single automation flow to create consistent and timely customer experiences.

2 Common Use Cases

  • Reach users in real time, outside the app environment

  • Send product updates, reminders, or limited-time offers

  • Personalize messages through segmentation

  • Trigger notifications based on user behavior or app events

  • Use in combination with email and in-app messages as part of a multi-channel strategy

3 Prerequisite: Mobile SDK Integration

To use push notifications in Mapp Engage, your mobile app must be integrated with Mapp’s Mobile SDK. Without this connection, push messages cannot be delivered. For implementation guidance, refer to the Mobile SDK documentation.

4 Push Notifications in Mapp Engage

Mapp Engage provides a robust set of tools for creating, sending, and analyzing mobile push notifications. The platform is designed to seamlessly integrate push messaging into your broader customer engagement strategy.

Key components and capabilities include:

4.1 Delivery Infrastructure

Mapp Engage handles push delivery through standard delivery platforms: Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) for iOS devices and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for Android devices. This ensures compatibility with both major mobile operating systems. Once your app is integrated with the Mapp Mobile SDK, you can reliably send notifications to registered devices.

See Mobile SDKs.

4.2 Message Creation and Rich Content Support

You can create push messages using the same interface and tools used for other channels, like email and in-app messaging. This includes:

  • Text entry and preview capabilities

  • Personalized content using attributes or placeholders

  • Push notifications can include rich media elements to boost engagement:

    • Images, GIFs, and videos

    • Audio files and deep links

    • Dynamic placeholders for names, offers, or locations

See Create and Customize a Mobile Push Notification.

4.3 Localization and Multilingual Support

You can create localized push experiences using:

  • Language-based audience segmentation

  • Localized button templates for in-message interactivity

  • Per-language message variants

See Create and Apply Localized Button Sets for Push Messages.

4.4 Group and Contact Management

Mapp Engage supports advanced group and contact management, including merging contact profiles across channels. This helps ensure that a user is recognized as the same individual whether they interact via app, web, or email, allowing for more accurate targeting and deduplication of messages.

See Contact Management for App Channels.

4.5 Message Statistics

Detailed statistics are available for every push message sent. Metrics include:

  • Delivery rates

  • Message opens (when supported by the OS)

  • Failed deliveries and reasons

  • Audience size and segmentation details

See Statistics.
