# Personalization

Personalization helps you tailor messages to individual contacts – based on their profile data or behavior. This makes your communication more relevant, increases engagement, and improves results.

In Mapp Engage, personalization is based on two flexible methods: placeholders for inserting values, and rules for showing content conditionally. You can create and manage these using built-in tools – visually or in code.

For example, you can:

- Greet contacts by name
- Show offers based on loyalty status
- Adjust wording depending on gender or interests
