# Phase Out a Whiteboard

## Goal

Gradually deactivate an active whiteboard so that no new contacts enter, while allowing existing contacts to complete their journey.

## Background Information

The phase-out process prevents new contacts from entering a whiteboard but allows existing contacts to finish all configured steps. This option is only available for active, time-based whiteboards.

When you edit an active whiteboard, it is automatically set to *Phasing Out,* and a new version is created.

## Procedure

1. ​Navigate to *Automations​ > ​Whiteboards*.
2. In the ​Whiteboards​ window, click the name of the active whiteboard you want to end gradually.
3. Click ​**Phase Out**. The process starts immediately.
