Related Data lookup does not match attribute values

Problem

Segment filters or Related Data expressions do not return expected matches when an attribute value is used as a lookup key.

Cause

Related Data lookups are case-sensitive. Engage may normalize certain contact attributes (such as email addresses), while Related Data tables store text values as provided.

If the casing of a value in the Related Data record does not exactly match the casing of the corresponding Engage attribute, the lookup does not match.

Resolution

1. Identify the Engage attribute used in the lookup.

2. Review the corresponding key field values in the Related Data table.

3. Update the Related Data values so their casing exactly matches the Engage attribute values.

4. Save the Related Data record.

Result

Related Data lookups and segment filters correctly match records when attribute values use consistent casing.

Additional Information

• This behavior applies to all text-based lookup keys, not only email addresses.

• Engage does not enforce referential integrity between contact attributes and Related Data records, so value consistency must be maintained manually.
