# Send a System Message via SMS

## Goal

Send a specific system message as an SMS to group members in Mapp Engage.

## Prerequisites

Make sure the following setup is complete before sending SMS system messages:

- SMS feature is enabled in your account.
- Required codes and keywords are registered.
- SMS-specific groups are created and configured.
- Inbound/outbound mobile IDs and reply handling are set up for each group.

## Procedure

1. Go to *Messages > System Messages* *> System (General) / Group (General) / Group (Specific)*
2. Click ![Diagram illustrating a process with highlighted steps and arrows indicating flow direction.](https://cdn.document360.io/554b9b98-6720-4d8b-9919-c7b203d72648/Images/Documentation/threedots(1).png) *> Edit*next to the system message you want to modify.
3. In the **Edit System Message** window, click *Add Language*.
4. In the pop-up window, click the plus icon to select the desired language.
  - The language appears in the **Customized Languages** list.
5. Highlight the added language and go to the *SMS* tab.
6. Deselect the **Suppress Channel** checkbox.
7. Enter the SMS text in the input field.
  - System messages are sent with 16-bit encoding and are limited to 70 characters per single message.
8. Click **Save**.
9. Repeat steps 3–9 for each required language.
