# Limit message sendouts to recently engaged email contacts

## Overview

This example shows how to limit email sendouts to contacts who recently engaged with previous campaigns.

It applies to segmentation based on **Email Activity** in Mapp Engage and is commonly used to protect sender reputation and deliverability.

Engagement is defined by recent open activity within a defined timeframe.

---

## Example setup

A marketer wants to reduce the risk of poor deliverability by sending campaigns only to contacts who actively engage with emails.

Instead of targeting the entire contact base, the setup identifies contacts who **opened a minimum number of emails within a recent period**. This approach uses open activity as a proxy for engagement and helps avoid repeated sendouts to inactive recipients.

The following screenshot shows the finished segment with the engagement-based open condition applied.

---

## Steps

1. Create a segment using **Email Activity**.
2. Add an **Opened** condition and select **Yes**.
3. Define a minimum number of occurrences (for example, *opened at least two emails*).
4. Restrict the evaluation to a recent timeframe (for example, *within the last three months*).
5. Use the segment as the target audience for email sendouts.

## Notes

- Open activity is commonly used as an engagement signal, but it may not reflect all forms of interest if images are blocked.
- This pattern is typically used to reduce the risk of spam filtering and improve overall email deliverability.
