Overview
This example shows how to retarget contacts based on their engagement with a previous mobile message.
It applies to segmentation using Mobile Activity criteria in Mapp Engage.
Engagement is defined by a contact’s reaction to a specific Push Notification or In-App Message.
Example setup
A marketer previously announced a new product line using mobile messaging and now wants to follow up with contacts who actively engaged with that message.
Instead of targeting all recipients again, the setup focuses on contacts who responded to the original message. Engagement is measured using the Reaction = Engaged status, which represents meaningful interaction such as opening the message or clicking a link or button.
Because Push Notifications and In-App Messages are distinct mobile channels, engagement is evaluated separately for each message type.
The following screenshot shows the finished segment with the relevant Mobile Activity reaction conditions applied.

Steps
Create a segment using Mobile Activity criteria.
Add a Push Notification Reaction condition and select Reaction = Engaged for the relevant push message.
Add an In-App Message Reaction condition and select Reaction = Engaged for the corresponding in-app message.
Combine the conditions to identify contacts who engaged with either mobile message type.
Use the segment as the target audience for the follow-up mobile message or offer.
Notes
Engaged is an aggregated reaction status that includes opens and interactions such as link or button clicks.
Push Notifications and In-App Messages are evaluated separately because they are delivered and interacted with in different contexts.
This pattern is commonly used for mobile re-targeting scenarios, where follow-up communication should focus on contacts who already showed interest.
