User - City

The User - City information is a User Category in Mapp Intelligence. It allows you to segment users based on their place of residence rather than just their current location. This can be particularly useful for marketing campaigns, regional targeting, and customer behavior analysis.

What is the difference from the City analysis?

Mapp Intelligence automatically determines a City value for each visit based on the user’s IP address. This reflects the location from which the user is currently accessing the website and is, therefore, session-based. Since a user may visit the website from different locations (e.g., while traveling), this information does not necessarily correspond to their place of residence.

The User - City field can be used to analyze a user’s actual place of residence. Unlike the City value, this information remains stable and can be used for long-term segmentation.

How can the data be populated?

The User - City value is not tracked automatically but must be explicitly provided via an import. A typical use case for this is when a user identifies themselves during the checkout process or account registration, allowing their city of residence to be stored for future analysis. Since User - City is a User Category, it is assigned to the user rather than an individual session, making it a stable attribute that persists across multiple visits.
