# Visitors - User Categories

This analysis shows a custom dimension of the type *User category*. User categories allow you to store user-centric data, such as demographic details, preferences, and behavioral information.

**Hint:** The “-” category includes all users who are not assigned to a specific *User category*.

## **Updating User Categories**

User categories in Mapp Intelligence can be updated. The method depends on the category type and data collection approach:

- **Pixel tracking:** Updates data dynamically when users interact with your site.
- **Imports:** Allows batch updates via file uploads.
- **Widgets:** Enables direct user input for certain categories.
