Click **Event-based.** ⇒ The **Event-based** window opens. 3. Click **Create.** ⇒ The **Automation** window opens to the step 1. Create Define Event. 4. Enter the desired settings for the event (see [Edit Event (window)](/v1/docs/edit-event-window)). 5. Click **Edit Job.** ⇒ The step 2. Edit Event-based Job opens. ## Purpose In this window you define an event-based job. This includes: - Selection of the type of job. - Definition of specific settings. - Creation of an optional delay between the event and the job. When the system detects that the event has taken place, it executes the event-based job. ## Related Topics - [Event-Based Automation](/v1/docs/event-based-automation) - [All Available Event-Based Jobs](/v1/docs/all-available-event-based-jobs) ## Basic Settings | Setting | Description | | --- | --- | | Name | Displays the name of the automation as defined in the Edit Event window. | | Description | Displays a description of the automation as defined in the Edit Event window. | | Event | Displays the type of event as defined in the Edit Event window. Every time this event occurs, the dependent job is executed by the system. | | Job | Selects the job. This is the task automatically carried out by the system every time the event occurs. | > [!CAUTION] > There are two different types of events and jobs: (C) for contact-related or (S) for system-related. The designations (C) and (S) guide you in combining a job and an event. Always combine a (C) event with a (C) job. Always combine an (S) event with an (S) job. See [Contact (C) vs. System (S) Automations](/v1/docs/contact-c-vs-system-s-automations). ## Define Job This area defines the job in greater detail. The fields displayed here depend on the selected job. For more information, see [All Available Event-Based Jobs](/v1/docs/all-available-event-based-jobs). ## Define Delay In this area you can define a time delay between the event and the resulting job. If you define a delay, the system waits the specified amount of time after the event takes place before executing the event-based job. If you do not define a delay, the system executes the job immediately after the event takes place. > Hint: > > A selection applied to an event-based job is calculated when the job is executed, not when the event takes place. This means that the selection is calculated after the delay. - **Delay:** Defines whether there should be a delay between the event and the resulting job. - **No:** There is no delay between the event and the resulting job. As soon as the system registers the event, it executes the job. - **Yes:** There is a delay between the event and the resulting job. **Unit:** Defines whether the delay is calculated in minutes, hours, days or weeks. **Value:** Defines the duration of the delay. ## Schedule - **Time Frame >:** This button saves your changes and opens the Define Time Frame window (see [Define Time Frame (window)](/v1/docs/define-time-frame-window)). Here the execution of the event-based job is limited to a certain time frame. - **Edit Event:** This button opens the Edit Event window (see [Edit Event (window)](/v1/docs/edit-event-window)). The name and description of the automation as well as the automation event are defined in this window.
