    Article summary

Engage stores very large amounts of data related to your email marketing campaigns. This includes profile data (addresses, personal data and preferences), recipient activity (clicks, opens and conversions), contact context information, and information about messages, groups and your system. Storage of such large amounts of data is made possible by our flexible and strong cloud architecture.

Engage provides many types of exports to meet your needs and accommodate the requirements of different external data analysis tools.

This topic helps you decide which exports are right for you.

    Raw Data

Raw data is unprocessed, stored information about individual activities. This means that the data is not pre-calculated or interpreted.

The following exports of raw data are available in Engage:

    • Raw Data Export: A Raw Data Export contains all the unfiltered data that is available in Engage (for example, all bounces, all clicks, or all conversions). This highly detailed information can be linked to data from other channels and analyzed in an external tool such as a data warehouse or business intelligence tool to optimize the success of future campaigns. For more information, see Raw Data Exports.

    • Simplified Data Export: A Simplified Data Export is similar to a Raw Data Export. Both export raw data about individual activities for further processing. However, Simplified Data Exports only export the first instance of each event you select (for example, the first click). To analyze the exported data, you need an external tool such as a CRM (customer relationship management) system. The raw data alone does not follow a sorting strategy or provide usable insights. For more information, see Simplified Data Export.

Tab.:Differences between Simplified Data Exports and Raw Data Exports

    Simplified Data Export

    Raw Data Export

Helps you analyze WHO interacts with your messages

Helps you analyze HOW contacts interact with your messages

Exports only the FIRST tracking event

    Exports ALL tracking events

Contains basic information for each event (for example, timestamp, bounce category, link URL)

Contains all available information for each event (for example, device data, geolocation data)

Output files are usually smaller than a raw data export

Output files can be very large

Typically used for import into a CRM system

Requires import into a Data Warehouse or similar system, for further analysis with a BI tool

    Raw Data Exports and Statistics

Raw Data Exports and Simplified Data Exports deal with raw data. Message Statistics deal with processed events - (CC & BCC addresses, Control Users, Counting Clickers as Openers, among others). Therefore, do not compare Raw Data and Simplified Data Exports to Message Statistics. Raw Data and Simplified Data Exports do not basically have the KPI requirements that Message Statistics has, and therefore the numbers are logically different.

If you do want to export your campaign performance, use the "Export Group Message Statistics" automation or use the Address Data Export.

Bear in mind that Raw and Simplified Data Exports have a 1-hour delay as compared to Message Statistics. Mapp therefore recommends to execute your Raw and Simplified Data Export automation daily, in the night preferably covering the last 24 h of all messages and events.

    Processed Data

In Engage, data that is pre-calculated and filtered is called Processed Data.

A processed data export contains selected data to which a calculation logic is applied (for example, export of all recipients, openers, or clickers). After export from Engage, the data is available for analysis in an external tool to optimize the success of future campaigns.

The following exports of processed data are available in Engage:

    • Address Data Export: Statistics export of address data for selected performance indicators of group or single messages. For more information, see Address Data Export (window).

    • Export Data to Server: Time-based automation that exports data from your system. This job offers a number of configurable exports. For more information, see Export Data to Server.

    • Recipient Activity: Cloud export of information about recipient activity (opens, clicks, bounces, conversions). This is a system-wide export and can be generated for every type of message (single messages, group messages, test messages, split sendouts, super messages, system messages, control messages). For more information, see Cloud Export File.

    • Aggregated Recipient Activity: Cloud export of aggregated information about recipient activity This export only includes information about group messages. For more information, see Cloud Export File.

    • Aggregated Link Clicks: Cloud export of information about the clicks produced by a message. This export always refers to one message. For more information, see Cloud Export File.

Cloud Exports are an extra feature that must be enabled for your Engage system.

Currently, the Cloud Export area is only accessible to Mapp team members. This means that a Mapp employee must set up and generate the export for you. For more information, contact your customer service representative.

    Reports

In Engage, exports that contain calculated KPIs are called reports. Reports deliver data that is more strongly aggregated than raw data or processed data exports. You can generate a reports for a single message or multiple messages. Depending on the report type, the report contains information about message, user or group data. Reports provide information about calculated KPIs such as the number of recipients, openers, opens, clicks, unsubscribes and bounces as well as calculated metrics such as the opening, click and conversion rates.

    • In the Statistics area of Engage, message statistics for group and single messages can be exported as a report in Excel or CSV format. For more information, see Export Message Statistics as a Report.

    • In the Administration  I Reports area of Engage there are seven types of reports. Each report contains different data. For more information, see Reports.
