    Goal​

    To import contacts and profile attribute data into a group. The import file can be in CSV, XML, or text format.

    Do not use this procedure to import system users into Mapp Engage. To add system users, follow the steps on this page: Create Mapp Engage System User​.

    Prerequisites​

    1. Existing Group: Ensure the group you want to import contacts into exists.

    2. File Format and Size: You can import contacts from a CSV, XML, or text file with a maximum size of 50 MB.

    3. Correct Formatting: Ensure the file is formatted correctly.

    4. Unique Identifiers: Contacts must be uniquely identified by one of the following:

      • Contact ID

      • email address

      • mobile phone number

      • mobile app alias

    You can also import contacts from a CRM system with an external identifier. For instructions, see Update Contacts with External Identifier.

    Procedure

    Follow the steps in this video to import members into groups. Note that the path for creating or editing groups has changed to Audience > Group Management > Groups.

    1. Access Group Management

      • In the top navigation menu, go to Audience > Group Management > Groups.

    2. Open the Members Option

      • From the context menu next to the group you want to edit, select Members.

    3. Initiate the Import Process

      • Click the Import button.

    4. Choose the File to Import

      • Click Choose File to locate and upload a file from your local computer.

      • Supported file types include CSV, XML, and Text.

    5. Set Import Options

      • File Type: Select the appropriate file type.

      • Character Set: Choose the correct character encoding from the drop-down menu.

      • Import Mode: Choose one of the following import modes:

        • Add: Add contacts as members.

        • Update Current Members: Update information for existing members.

        • Add and Update All: Add new contacts and update existing ones.

        • Add and Update (Exclude Current Members): Add new contacts only without modifying current members.

        • Replace All: Replace all existing group members with the new list.

        • Remove from Group: Remove contacts from the group.

        • Add Contact (With Notification and Invite): Add contacts with a notification or invitation. This applies even if the contact is already a member.

    6. Apply Synchronization Qualifiers (Optional)

      • Use synchronization qualifiers to refine the import process. Some qualifiers are automatically applied based on the selected import mode, while others may not be available for certain modes.

    7. Configure Advanced Options (Optional)

      • Expand the Advanced Options section to specify additional settings:

        • Time Zone: Specify the time zone for date attributes if the file lacks this information.

        • Date Format and Time Zones: Enter time zones in the format YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss(+/-)GMT difference. Example: 2012-12-25T15:15:15-05:00.

        • Use External Identifier: Enable this option to identify contacts using a unique ID instead of email or mobile number. This requires a special import procedure. Refer to the documentation on Update Contacts with External Identifier for more details.

        • Set Read Mode System-wide: Use the file’s read mode to set system-wide read modes for all contacts in the file. This option is available for these modes:

          • Replace

          • Update Members Only

          • Add and Update Non-members Only

          • Add and Update All

    8. Start the Import

      • Click the Import button to begin the process.

      • Once the import is complete, an Import Report with status information will be sent to the system user who initiated the process.
