Navigation Path
In the main navigation, click Audience > Administration.
From the Group drop-down list, select the group that you want to import contacts into.
Click Import.
Purpose
In this window, you can import contacts and profile attribute data into a group. The data must be saved in a CSV, XML, or text file.
Use this import method if:
You want to do a one-off (non-repeating) import.
You are importing fewer than 1 million contacts at a time. (The maximum file size is 50 MB.)
You do not want to immediately start a campaign after import.
Your contacts are stored in an XML file or a CSV file.
Did you know that you can automate regular imports? We recommend automating your imports if you regularly import more than 1 million contacts at a time. For more information, see System Whiteboards.
You cannot add system users to Mapp Engage in this window. To add system users, see New System User.

Import Mode
This area defines how the imported contacts and their profile data are added to the existing group.
In the context of an import, Mapp Engage distinguishes between existing members, existing contacts, and new contacts.
Current Members: Addresses that exist in Mapp Engage are already members of the group you import the file into.
Current Contacts (not Members): The address exists in Mapp Engage. However, the contacts are not members of the group you are importing the file into.
New Contacts: Addresses that do not exist in Mapp Engage at the time of file import.

Option | Description |
---|---|
Time Zone | Defines the time zone that is used for attributes with date data types. The values must conform to the standardized “tz“ database format, the IANA time zone database. For example, America/New York or Europe/Berlin. |
Use External Identifier | The system identifies contacts with a unique ID rather than email or mobile number. Normally, Mapp Engage uses an email address or mobile phone number to update or create contact information. If you want to import contact data into Mapp Engage with the external identifier, each contact's value must be unique. This type of file requires a special import procedure. For more information, see Update Contacts with External Identifier. |
Set Read Mode System-Wide | Uses the read mode in the import file to set the system-wide read mode of all contacts in the file. The read mode setting for each contact is overwritten for all groups of which this contact is a member. This option is only available when contacts are added with one of the following import modes:
