# Organize Content Store Elements with Categories

## Goal

Create categories for content store elements and assign them to your elements. Categories help you find related files later, for example all images of one campaign.

## Prerequisites

- To create a category, you need permission 310 **System Administration: Create and edit categories**.
- To assign a category, you need permission to edit the element: 245 **CMS: Edit own content store elements** or 244 **CMS: Edit all content store elements**.

## Create a Category

1. Go to *Administration > Categories > Content Element*.
2. Click **Create new CE Category**.
3. Enter a **Content Element Category Name** (up to 100 characters).
4. Optional: Enter a **Description** (up to 500 characters).
5. Click **Save & close**. ⇒ A system message confirms that the category was created.

## Assign a Category to an Element

1. Go to *Content > Content Store* and open the **All Files** tab.
2. Open the context menu (three dots) of the element and click **Settings**.
3. From the **Category** drop-down list, select a category and click **Add**.
4. To assign more categories, repeat step 3. An element can have more than one category.
5. Click **Save Settings**.
