# Personalization Builder: Preview

## Overview

Use the **Preview** window to check the syntax and behavior of a personalization rule before you use it in a message. The rule is validated as soon as the preview opens. You can then test how the rule resolves for a specific address, review the output, and edit the source code.

## Navigation Path

1. Navigate to *Audience > Segmentation > Personalization*.
2. Create or edit a personalization rule in the Personalization Builder.
3. Click **Preview**. The preview opens in a new window.

## Settings

| Setting | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **User** | Specifies the email address of the contact used to test the rule. To check every branch of the rule, test with several contacts whose attribute values match the different conditions. A fictional email address has no stored values, so it shows the fallback content. |
| **Preview** | Shows how the personalization appears for the selected address. The preview is only available when all `InsertIf` blocks contain content. |
| **Source Code** | Shows the full personalization rule. Errors appear in red. You can edit the code directly. |
| **Analysis for Address** | Evaluates the rule for the selected address, including the attribute values. Lines with `expression="true"` show which parts of the rule were applied. |

## Actions

| Action | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Load in Builder** | Transfers the edited source code back to the Personalization Builder. Invalid rules cannot be transferred. Structures that the graphical interface cannot display open in manual mode. |
| **Update** | Refreshes the preview after you change the user or the source code. |
