Send Repeated Opt-In Reminder

Prev Next

This job was previously called: Remind an unconfirmed recipient (S) or Remind Pending User Repetitive.

This job sends repeated opt-in reminders to unconfirmed group members. These contacts requested a group subscription but have not yet confirmed their subscription. The contact confirms subscription by replying to, or clicking on the link in, the confirmation request message. The confirmation request is the system message SysMsgConfirmSubscription.

The repeated opt-in reminder can be a part of a two-step reminder process:

  1. The first reminder message is sent out via the group settings after a defined number of days. This process is activated in the group settings by selecting the option "Reminder mail will be sent after X days" (see Notifications (tab) ). This message is the system message  SysMsgRemindPending. This initial reminder email is only sent once, even if the recipient does not respond.

  2. Second and further reminders can be sent using the automated job Send Repeated Opt-in Reminder. This job also sends the system message SysMsgRemindPending. The reminder is sent at a set interval, defined in days (for example, once every 3 days). The reminders are sent for a total of up to 14 days, calculated from the date of sendout of the first reminder message. After 14 days, the subscription request is cancelled. The pending member is not added to the group, and no further messages are sent.

Important: The legality of sending repeated opt-in reminders depends on the laws of the country or region where your contacts are located. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of this feature complies with all applicable laws. Please consult your legal department or data protection officer if you are unsure.

The option Send Opt-In Reminder per Email After Days must be activated in the group settings in order to use this job (see Notifications (tab)). If this option is not activated, the job will not execute!

Use Case

Example: In the group settings, the option Reminder mail will be sent after X days is checked and set to 5 days. The unconfirmed recipient receives a confirmation request (SysMsgConfirmSubscription) immediately after subscription on day 1 and a reminder message (SysMsgRemindPending) on day 6. An automation is created with the job Send Repeated Opt-In Reminder. The drop-down list Days between Reminders is set to 3 days. The unconfirmed recipient receives additional reminders (SysMsgRemindPending) on days 9 and 12. If he does not respond to any of the reminders, the unconfirmed subscription is cancelled after 14 days

Define Job

This area defines the specific parameters of the job.

  • Days between Reminders: This drop-down list defines the frequency with which the reminder message is sent. This is the number of days that have passed since the last reminder. The reminders are sent for a total of up to 14 days, calculated from the date of sendout of the first reminder message.

Engage only stores the data of unconfirmed recipients for 14 days. The reminder message is sent at the defined frequency until this period has passed. Thereafter, the address can no longer be contacted with reminders.

Define Segment

  • Segment: This drop-down list defines a segment, which filters contacts according to defined conditions. Use the symbol to search all segments in the system.
A segment is mandatory for this job. Using a segment that limits the reminder messages to one specific group is advisable.
Creating an extra selection that filters for unconfirmed group members is unnecessary. This is performed automatically.
