Introduction
CI Segments are behavior-based audiences created in the Intelligence module. They are generated from website and app interaction data and can include predefined Intelligence segments or fully custom configurations. When shared with Engage, these segments become available for targeting in messages, automations, and personalization.
Engage does not provide tools to create or edit CI Segments. All logic is defined in Intelligence. In Engage, you can only view segment information, monitor usage, and manage update behavior.

Reusing Intelligence logic: Apply predefined or custom Intelligence segments without rebuilding criteria in Engage.

Segment Updates and Usage in Engage
Requirements
CI Segments appear in Engage only when all conditions below are met:
Intelligence is enabled for the account
CI Segments are activated in Engage
Tracking data is available to calculate the segments
When these requirements are fulfilled, Engage imports all segments that have been shared from Intelligence.
How CI Segments Are Updated
CI Segments are calculated in Intelligence based on historical behavior. Engage retrieves updates periodically.
Segments used in Engage are refreshed automatically every 24 hours.
Some segments can be marked for daily recalculation in Engage. When enabled, Engage requests more frequent updates from Intelligence.
A daily limit applies to how many CI Segments can be refreshed in this way. When the limit is reached:
No additional segments can be added to daily recalculation
Publishing new selections that introduce more CI Segments may be restricted
Important
There is a maximum number of CI Segments that can be recalculated automatically per day. When this limit is exceeded:
You cannot select additional CI Segments for daily recalculation.
You cannot publish a Segmentation Builder selection that introduces a new CI Segment.
You can still use all existing CI Segments, including those already enabled for daily recalculation.
Access in Engage
You can find CI Segments under Audience > Segmentation > CI Segments.
This view provides:
All CI Segments shared from Intelligence
Descriptions and related metadata
Usage details in Engage, such as messages, automations, or segmentation logic
Refresh status and optional daily recalculation settings
Managing CI Segments in Engage
While CI Segments cannot be edited in Engage, you can manage how they are updated and used.
You can:
Review descriptions and usage
Enable or disable daily recalculation
Monitor refresh status and last update values
These settings only influence how Engage requests updates from Intelligence. They do not modify the segment logic itself.
