    Article summary

With the help of the filter engine, you can filter analyses, metrics, and formulas.

Within the filter engine, you can use all dimensions and metrics available in your account. A filter cannot use formulas (e.g., the conversion rate).

    • The filter engine works with containers. A container consists of one or more filters that can be set.

    • Each container has a so-called scope.
      The available scopes are:

      Scope

      Description

      Actions

Limits your analysis on information that was collected within an event request.

      Pages

Limits your analysis on information that was collected within a page request.

      Visits

Limits your analysis on information that was collected within a visit.

      Visitors

Limits your analysis on information that was collected regarding a visitor.

    • By default, the scope "Auto" is chosen. "Auto" means that each filter works in its smallest possible scope (Actions, Pages, or visits).
If you use multiple containers, only one may use "Auto".

    • It depends on the chosen scope of which filters are available. For example, for the scope "Pages" only filters are available that have at least the Auto-Scope "Pages".
More information can be found in this FAQ.

The training chapter Segmentation and Filter Options provides detailed information on the filter engine's functionality.
