Banners are a versatile tool in marketing automation, allowing you to dynamically present tailored messages, offers, or announcements to your audience. They can serve various purposes, such as increasing engagement, sharing information, and driving specific actions, making them valuable for businesses across all industries.
Typical Use Cases for Banners
Banners can be shown dynamically to suit specific user scenarios. Here are some common examples:
Welcoming New Users: Display a banner highlighting the benefits of your website to first-time visitors.
Promotions and Offers: Show tailored banners for special events, discounts, or announcements relevant to the user.
Encouraging Sign-Ups: Prompt visitors to register for newsletters, events, or membership programs.
Steps to Prepare and Create a Banner Campaign
Prepare the Foundation
Before creating a banner campaign, ensure the following foundational elements are set up:
Host the Banner
Store your banner image on a publicly accessible server. This is required for the banner to be displayed in campaigns.
Create a New Banner Configuration
Go to Contents > Banners and click Create a New Banner. Configure the banner with the following details:
Name: Enter a unique name for the banner for easy identification.
Picture URL: Specify the URL where the banner image is hosted.
Link URL: Define the destination URL that users will be directed to when they click the banner.
Use the preview to verify if the URL works properly and the correct banner is being referenced.
Important
The preview does not represent the final size or display of the banner, as these depend on the placement configuration. It is recommended to test the content and placement together to ensure proper display.
Step 1: Create the Banner Campaign
Once the foundation is set, you can create a banner campaign:
Navigate to Marketing Automation > Campaigns and click Create a New Campaign.
Define the campaign elements:
Target Group: Select the audience segment you want to target. More information here.
Content: Choose the banner content you prepared earlier.
Frequency Cap: (Optional) Limit how often the banner is displayed to the same user.
Placement: Select the appropriate placement where the banner will appear. More information here.
Save and activate your campaign.
Step 2: Track Performance in Mapp Intelligence
The analysis of performance metrics is available under the Campaigns > Performance tab. Here, you can view detailed metrics for your campaigns. For advanced analyses, click Explore in Intelligence to access additional metrics, apply filters, and perform deeper custom evaluations.
Mapp Intelligence provides automatic tracking for key metrics, helping you evaluate their effectiveness:
Views: How often the banner is shown.
Clicks: Tracks user interactions with the banner.
Conversions: Tracks the number of desired user actions (e.g., purchases, sign-ups) completed.
Engagement: Measures subsequent page impressions after the banner is clicked.
(Note: Engagement tracking stops when the session ends or another banner/campaign is clicked.)
Advanced Tracking via Campaigns
You can track banners as campaigns by appending a unique URL parameter to the Link URL during setup. This enables you to:
• Attribute user actions, such as purchases or registrations, to the last banner clicked.
• Analyze the share of a specific banner in achieving a defined goal (e.g., driving conversions).
• Use attribution logic to evaluate the banner’s role in the overall customer journey.
Managing Existing Banners
To monitor and manage banners:
Navigate to Contents > Banners to view, edit, or delete existing banners.
Use this area to:
Review your banners’ performance.
Make adjustments as needed for active or archived campaigns.
