Media Tracking

Media Tracking lets you measure how users interact with media streams on your website or in your applications. With the plugin you can capture:

  • Player actions such as play, pause, stop, seek

  • Playback behavior such as play duration, completed views, or chapters watched

  • Technical details such as bandwidth, volume, or mute

This data helps you understand how long videos are viewed, which sections are skipped, and how users engage with your content.

In combination with a standard Mapp Intelligence tracking pixel, Media Tracking can be linked to all other website or app data. This makes it possible to analyze, for example:

  • whether users purchase something after watching a video,

  • through which traffic sources they arrived before watching, or

  • which articles or product pages they viewed alongside the media content.

You can integrate the Media Tracking plugin in two ways:

  • Browser integration – covers all browser-based tracking variants (Pixel v4, Pixel v5, Tag Integration, etc.). This applies to all implementations except SmartPixel. The tracking library is added to the website, and player events are forwarded.

    Using SmartPixel?

Media Tracking is already included as a SmartPixel extension with its own API. See the SmartPixel Media Tracking documentation for details.

  • Server-to-server integration – submit media events directly from your media player to Mapp

This documentation explains how to implement the Media Tracking plugin. The following pages provide detailed information about setup, initialization, and available media actions.
