Create a Barcode

Prev Next

Goal

Create a barcode that you can insert into email messages.

Prerequisites

  • You have permission 170 or 172.

  • Depending on the data source: a coupon list with codes, or a custom attribute that contains the value, for example a membership number.

Procedure

  1. Go to Content > Voucher Manager > Barcodes.

  2. Click Create.

  3. Under Basic Settings:

    • Enter a unique Name.

    • Optional: Enter a Description.

    • If several domains are available, select the Domain.

    • Select the Barcode Type. Some types only accept digits or a fixed length, for example EAN-13. Make sure that the type matches your data. See Barcode Types.

  4. Under Content, select the Data Source:

    • Single Input: A fixed value. All recipients receive the same barcode. The barcode is not personalized and not tracked.

    • Coupon List: Codes from a coupon list. Each recipient receives the barcode of their own code.

    • Attributes: The value of a custom attribute of the contact, for example a membership number.

  5. In Data to Encode, enter the value or select the coupon list or the attribute.

  6. Optional: In Alternative Barcode, enter a fallback value. Mapp Engage uses it when the coupon list has no codes left or the attribute of a contact is empty.

  7. Optional: Adjust the settings under Text Style and Layout. The available options depend on the barcode type. See Create New Barcode.

  8. Click Save.
⇒ The barcode is available in the Barcode category of Mapp Engage Variables.

Warning

For a barcode based on Attributes: If a contact has no value in the attribute and no alternative barcode is set, Mapp Engage skips the message for this contact.

Note

With Single Input, you can click Save as Content Element instead. The barcode is then stored in the Content Store and inserted like any other content element. It does not appear in the Barcode category of Mapp Engage Variables.

Next Step

Insert the barcode into a message. See Add a Barcode to a Message.
