Define Sendout Speed for a Group

    Article summary

    Goal

To configure the sendout speed for messages in a group.

    Background Information

The sendout speed setting is a useful feature to help minimize deliverability problems, especially with large groups. By default, the sendout speed is set to maximum unless adjusted manually.

Key reasons to limit sendout speed include:

    • Preventing Spam Classification: Large-scale sendouts from an IP typically used for smaller groups can trigger spam filters. Slowing the sendout helps mitigate this risk.

    • Address Quality Checks: For new groups with unverified addresses, slower sendout speeds allow time to assess spam complaints and interrupt the sendout if needed, avoiding broader deliverability issues.

When messages are sent at a controlled speed, spam complaints are spread over time, reducing the likelihood of widespread delivery problems across all addresses.

    Procedure

Follow these steps to define sendout speed for a group:

    1. In the main navigation menu, click Audience > Group Management > Groups.

    2. Create a new group by clicking the Create button or edit an existing group.

    3. Navigate to the Sendout Options tab.

    4. In the Sendout Speed area, select one of the following options:

      • Evenly distribute over a time frame: Sends messages at a consistent rate over the defined time frame. You must specify both the start and end times in the Time Frame area.

      • Send X emails per hour: Sends messages at a specific rate, ranging from 1,000 (minimum) to 500,000 (maximum) emails per hour.

    5. In the Time Frame area, define the start and end times for the sendout.

      • If the end time is earlier than the start time, the sendout will occur overnight (e.g., 22:45 to 4:00).

    6. If the message should be sent in a time zone different from your own, select the desired time zone from the Time Zone drop-down menu. This ensures the message reaches recipients at an appropriate local time.

    7. Click Save to apply the settings.

    Important Notes

    • Channel-Specific Sendout Speed: Sendout speed settings apply only to email and SMS channels. To control the sendout speed for Mobile Push notifications, use a scheduled Whiteboard with a Random Split filter. For more information, see Mobile Push Campaigns with Sendout Speed Limitation.

    • Carefully consider sendout speed adjustments for large or irregularly scheduled campaigns to enhance deliverability and reduce potential issues.
