Overview

A SuperGroup is a special type of recipient group that combines multiple regular groups into a single entity. It allows you to send messages to multiple groups simultaneously, while keeping each group independent. This helps simplify message distribution and supports various communication scenarios, including internal previews and customer-facing campaigns.

Key Characteristics

  • Combination of groups: A SuperGroup consists of one or more regular recipient groups, referred to as subgroups. A message sent to a SuperGroup can reach multiple groups at once.

  • Direct members: Recipients can be added directly to a SuperGroup. These recipients belong only to the SuperGroup and are not added to any of its subgroups.

  • Clear identification: In the Group Overview window, SuperGroups are marked with an “(S)” after their name, making them easy to identify.

  • Independent subgroups: Subgroups remain independent, maintaining their own settings and identities. They are treated as subgroups only within the context of the SuperGroup.

  • Flexible structure:

    • There is no limit to the number of subgroups in a SuperGroup.

    • A recipient can belong to multiple subgroups within the same SuperGroup. In this case, the recipient receives multiple copies of a message.

    • A SuperGroup can be a subgroup of another SuperGroup and can even be a subgroup of itself. When used as a subgroup, it behaves like a regular group in that context.

  • Deletion behavior: When a SuperGroup is deleted, the connection between the subgroups is removed. The subgroups themselves, as well as the saved messages and statistics of the SuperGroup, remain available in the system.

Configuration and Behavior

Creating a SuperGroup

Creating a SuperGroup follows the same process as creating a regular group. The only difference is that the SuperGroup checkbox is selected in the New Group window. After creation, the SuperGroup does not contain any subgroups. Subgroups are added later in the Edit Subgroups for Group window.

For more information, see Create a New Group.

Sending Messages to SuperGroups

When sending messages to a SuperGroup, two different sendout types are available:

  1. Normal message

    • Sent only to the members who were added directly to the SuperGroup.

    • Subgroups do not receive the message.

  2. SuperMessage

    • Sent to the members of all subgroups.

    • Direct SuperGroup members do not receive the message unless the SuperGroup is a subgroup of itself.

    • Each message sent to a subgroup is treated as a submessage.

    • Statistics are aggregated and displayed as a single SuperMessage, with submessage details available in the relevant overview windows.

Example Scenario

A company manages several local shop groups, including London NorthLondon West, and London Central. These groups are combined into a SuperGroup called LondonShops.

  • Shop managers are added directly to the SuperGroup.

  • Draft newsletters are sent as normal messages, so only the managers receive them.

  • Final newsletters are sent as SuperMessages, so customers in each subgroup receive a message with personalized content for their local shop.
