Personalize Emails with eCommerce and Related Data

Prev Next

Goal

Personalize an email with product data from a related data set. The products come from the wishlist, abandoned cart, or recommended products of the contact.

Background Information

  • The eCommerce tables contain the products of each contact, identified by their SKU.

  • Instead of the Product Catalog, a related data set can provide the product data. The key of the related data set is the product SKU.

  • The placeholders for this combination end with RD and name the related data set, for example user.wishlistProductsRD['myrdlistwithproductdata']. See Placeholders for eCommerce Data.

Note

eCommerce triggers cannot be set up with related data. They always use the Product Catalog. See eCommerce Triggers.

Procedure

  1. Go to Administration > Attributes > Related Data.

  2. Create a related data set, for example myrdlistwithproductdata. Use a unique, unlinked key. The key holds the product SKU.

  3. Add two String columns: description and price.

See Create Related Data Set.

Import a file with one row per product. The key of each row is the product SKU. See Import Data Into Related Data Set.

3 Import the eCommerce data

  1. Import data into the eCommerce tables Recommended Products, Wishlist, and Abandoned Cart (Administration > eCommerce). You can import the data manually or with Mapp Connect. See Manual Import & Search of eCommerce Data and Set Up Data Imports (Data Feeds).

  2. Make sure that the productSKU in the eCommerce tables matches the key in the related data set.

  3. Check that the products have been added to the eCommerce tables. See Testing eCommerce Tables.

4 Create the email

  1. Go to Create New > Message > Email Message.

  2. In the Compose step, insert the placeholders into the email.

The following template shows the description and price of each product in the wishlist, the abandoned cart, and the recommended products:

<html>
  <head>
    <title></title>
  </head>
  <body>
    Hello <%${user['Email']}%><br>
    <%ForEach var="test" items="${user.wishlistProductsRD['myrdlistwithproductdata']}"%>
      WL description: <%${test['description']}%><br>
      WL price: <%${test['price']}%><br><br>
    <%/ForEach%>

    <%ForEach var="test" items="${user.abandonedCartProductsRD['myrdlistwithproductdata']}"%>
      AC description: <%${test['description']}%><br>
      AC price: <%${test['price']}%><br><br>
    <%/ForEach%>

    <%ForEach var="test" items="${user.recommendedProductsRD['myrdlistwithproductdata']}"%>
      RP description: <%${test['description']}%><br>
      RP price: <%${test['price']}%><br><br>
    <%/ForEach%>
  </body>
</html>

5 Test the personalization

  1. Click Preview.

  2. Select a test contact with products in the eCommerce tables and click Update.

The preview shows the data from the related data set for the products of the contact. See Message Preview (Email).
